11 Sept. 98, Health Canada warns not to use any products containing Mustard oil. Oils contaminated with Argemone oil has led to blindness, other serious illness, and death in India. Health Canada is now testing to see if any contaminated products have been imported into Canada.
Cambridge, Mass. (UPI): According to new research, the combination of two diet drugs known as fenfluramine and phentermine might have a negative influence on the body's level of serotonin.
Boston (UPI): The significant risk of
heart valve damage caused by the drugs Redux (dexfenfluramine), Pondimin
(fenfluramine) or phentermine has been confirmed by three studies. These
findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine (10 Sept., 98).
Interneuron, of Lexington, Mass., the company that developed Redux, has already agreed to
pay $70 million into a settlement fund.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is not necessarily safer than X-rays and radiation. A new study suggests a link between a sharp increase in pediatric brain tumors and the use of MRI.
Sodium Fluoride, even in extremely low concentrations (one part per million), has shown in numerous tests to be neurotoxic.
Viagra: 39 deaths are now confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Aspartame: 5 deaths are reported and up to 70 different symptoms.

There is an increased risk of venous
thromboembolism when taking Oral Contraceptives or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). According to three
studies the risk for HRT increases two- to four-fold but declines as soon as the treatment
is stopped. These studies are confirmed by five epidemiological studies. HRT relieves
certain menopausal symptoms and may have other benefits.
If you cannot live with the risk, there are natural
alternatives like: soy isoflavones, licorice, etc. Unlike HRT, natural estrogens are also
said to reduce the risk of Breast Cancer.
Teratogenic drugs are those chemicals which cause birth defects. The most well-known teratongenic drug is Thalidomide.
Other teratogenic drugs, one should be aware of when pregnant, include:
Lithium, Androgens, Cytotoxic chemicals, Retinoids, and
Warfarin.
The Canadian Psychiatric Association says that one
in five Canadians is in need of mental health services but there are not enough beds and
drugs available.
According to Dr. Susan Abbey 25% of all disabilities are the result of psychiatric
disorders.
A recent Police shooting of a teenager in Regina might have been the result of such lack
of psychiatric resources. The boy's mother has tried in vain to get psychiatric help for
her son before he approached a police officer with a knife.
Hoechst, the producer of Seldane, warns that their
product should not be taken together with such drugs as: Ketoconazole, Itraconazole,
Erythromycin, Clarithromycin, or Troleandomycin.
"The concomitant use of Seldane/Seldane-D with the macrolide antibiotics or azole antifungals, use in patients with
significant hepatic dysfunction, or overdosage may result in serious cardiovascular events, including death, cardiac arrest, torsades de pointes
and other ventricular arrhythmias."
Reported by UPI Chicago (October 14, 98) : Autopsies show that doctors "overlooked or wrongly diagnosed cancer in nearly about half of their patients."
Mothballs may kill more than moths: Mothballs contain either Naphthalene or Paradichlorobenzine. Both chemicals may cause damage to the liver. Naphthalene may also cause a breakdown of Red Blood Cells while Paradichlorobenzine may cause cancer.
Pesticides used on fruit and
vegetables may be poisonous. One brand is blamed for several cases of Anophtalmia where children
were born without eyes. It is now reported that the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
is investigating the effects of pesticides on children.

Tartrazine, better known as
"yellow dye no. 5", is used as yellow food color in a large number of
prescription drugs, cereals, dried fruit, cakes, gelatin, ice cream, cookies, margarine,
butter, pasta, cheese, etc.
I have even found it added in papayas bought at the Health Food Store. However, it was not
labeled on the individual packages.
Yellow dye no. 5 may cause Allergies and Asthma (Ironically,
even allergy drugs may contain Tartrazine.)
But, more importantly, Tartrazine may lead to a deficiency of vitamin B6 and Zinc. Vitamin B6
is needed for proper neural functioning of the brain. It is also used by the body to
manufacture progesterone which is needed to process excess Estrogen.
This information may be very important for anyone but even more so for all those woman who
suspect that excess estrogen may be the cause for fibroid and other kinds of tumors.
Zinc is important for 200 enzyme systems and to fight infections.
Symptoms of Tartrazine poisoning:
Asthma attacks, Conjunctival irritation, Edemas of lips and tongue,
Headaches, Periorbital swelling, Rashes, Tingling in mouth.
Studies have shown that food colouring is affecting 89% of Hyperactive children
(Surrey University). Just imagine only one of these children is put on Ritalin as the
result of the yellow dye. My guess is that it has happened to more than one child already.
Ritalin, a drug that may put a grown-up in jail if he illegally sells it ot another
grown-up, is prescribed to many children with this disorder.
Why would dye be added to food if there is a potential health rish involved?
Since we do not need it, there is only one answer: Colored food sells better.
A good compromise might be to include a simple health warning on the labels as is now
custom with the cigarettes. Another dye (Red No. 3) has been found to cause thyroid tumors
in rats and is now banned.

A new treatment for Alzheimer's promises the long expected breakthrough.
A lack of Acetylcholine has long been implicated in Alzheimer's. Galantamine,
an extract of the Daffodil bulb and discovered by Janssen, inhibits the enzyme responsible
for the destruction of Acetylcholine.
Steven G. Potkin, M. D. of the UCI Neuropsychiatric Center is testing Galantamine for its
Efficacy, Tolerability, and Safety.
Another new drug, Rivastigmine (ENA-713), was presented at an International Conference on Alzheimer's in Amsterdam. The observed improvements were the largest recorded for an anti-dementia medication.
According to research done at the University of Pittsburgh a naturally occurring enzyme, Bleomycin hydrolase, increases the risk of Alzheimer's by a factor of four. This could have affect about 6 % of the population. Published in "Nature Genetics (March, 98)".
In several studies, the amino acid Homocystein A has also been implicated as an increased risk of Alzheimer's.
Testing 1,218 patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's, researchers at the McGill University concluded that the drug Metrifonate significantly improved Alzheimer's.
The journal "Naturwissenschaften" reports that Anabaseine, a chemical derived from ants, has shown a degree of improvement in Alzheimer patients.
Another drug showing promise is the drug Aricept (donepezil). This research done at the Baylor College of Medicine was published in "Neurology (Febr., 98)".
Anti-inflammatory drugs and protease inhibitors, which block the production of amyloid beta-peptide, have shown promise in the treatment of Alzheimer's.
In related news articles, research has found that Gotu Kola has a positive effect on Alzheimer's. Other natural products helpful in Alzheimer's include anti-oxidants, like vitamin E, and estrogen, found in soy beans and licorice root.
US studies have shown that cell death caused by an atoxic protein found in Alzheimer patients can be prevented by daily supplements of Vitamin E and other anti-oxidants.
There are indications that Estrogen may lower the risk of Alzheimers. Estrogen-like substances are also found in soy beans and licorice root. Dr. Tom Thomas of the University of South Florida in Tampa says the explanation for estrogen's action may be found in its prevention of vascular damage caused by amyloid beta-peptides that cause inflammations.
Researchers have identified at least three genes that appear to be involved in the development of Alzheimer's.
Over 2.1 million Americans between 65 and 75 years of age had Alzheimer's in 1995
The amount and quality of research into Alzheimer's looks very promising, especially, when compared with the past.
A new study, in 1998, done by Julie Varner, Karl Jensen, William Horvath
and Robert Issacson of Binghamton University in New York and the EPA Research Triangle
Park in North Carolina, shows that an extremely low concentration of
Sodium Fluoride displays neurotoxic effects. The same research has
shown that Fluoride
enhances Aluminum degeneration in rat's brains. Resulting lesions resemble those
found in Alzheimer's patients.
Chinese studies had already associated lower IQs in children
with excessive Fluoridation.
In India, more than 10 million people have been crippled by Endemic Skeletal Fluorosis as
a result of high content of Fluoride in their drinking water.
In Utah, a study compared people with Fluoride in their water with others
in Utah who had no Fluoride in their water and found a high level of hip fractures
in those areas with Fluoride.
Dr. Foulkes, one of the world's leading expert on Fluoride, has held the
position as Clinical Professor in UBC's Department of Health Care and Epidemiology, thinks
that fluoridating water is unethical because a medical treatment which
might be harmful is forced upon people.

Dr. Giorgio Trinchieri of the Wistar Institute, Dr. William M. F. Lee of the University of Pennsylvania, and their colleagues report that Interleukin-12 shows its antitumor activity because it stimulates tumor cells to produce their own antiangiogenic factors.
The antiangiongenic factor also plays a big role in the news-making antitumor drug from EntreMed Inc. Angiostatin and Endostatin have rid mice of their Cancer cells. I know of at least one test person with the same results. Angiostatin works by cutting off the blood supply to a cancerous growth. These chemicals are now undergoing their final testing stages.
Herceptin, an antibody that attacks cancer cells, is said to help one out of three woman with Breast Cancer with little side-effects. The drug was developed by Genentech and is expected to be approved by the FDA this fall.
A high dosage of Cyclophosphamide, Epirubicin, and Fluorouracil has moved Canada to the front in Breast Cancer treatment according to some scientists and a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Out of the high dosage chemotherapy group "only" 85 patients died compared to 107 patients using standard therapy. The high dosage chemotherapy group also had to endure a higher dosage of nausea, hair loss, and other side-effects.
The risk factor for a progression from a benign growth in the breast to Cancer might be checked by testing for an accumulation of the p53 protein. This is the conclusion of a large National Breast Screening Study and of Dr. Thomas Rohan and his colleagues at the University of Toronto. The study was published in a Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Malcolm A. Smith, of the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, observed a doubling of brain stem tumors that coincided with increased usage of MRI. Even so environmental factors cannot be excluded, the MRI seems to be the most logical cause. On the positive side, the MRI is able to detect tumors which may not be found with a regular x-ray or CAT scan.

Exclude and eliminate all those chemicals and poisons that are known to

Dr. Budwig
The main ingredient of the famous Dr. Budwig diet is cold pressed Flax oil
mixed in with Quark. Since we have to eat anyway, it will not hurt to raise the quality
level of what we eat. This diet has indeed helped many. Whole clinics are basing their
treatment on such diets with significant rates of success.
Dr.Budwigs recipe:
100g Sour Cream (skim milk
protein/quark), 40g fresh, cold pressed flax (linseed) oil and 25g skim milk
(brought to a boil).
Symptoms of Cancer or Liver-disease should start to disappear after three months. The idea
for this approach goes back to the observation that cancer patients show a lack of
linoleic acid important for cell respiration (oxidation requires oxygen and linoleic
acid). Flax oil contains, next to linoleic acid, many vitamins and minerals, all important
amino acids. This recipe is the most popular diet but is not the complete treatment Dr.
Budwig had applied with success in her clinic.
Ozone
Some doctors are still ridiculing ozone treatments with the argument that
it is a poisonous gas. Regardless of such argumentation, thousands are being successfully
treated with Ozone. Ozone is not only helpful in certain cases of Cancer, it also kills
bacteria, virus, and any kind of fungus in the blood. Of course, Ozone has to be injected
because inhaled it would indeed be poisonous to the lung tissue.

Taheebo, Poke root, Violet leaves, Mistletoe extract, Reishi (mushroom),

1. Black Walnut Tincture:
Increase drop by drop to a total of 20 drops 4x daily on empty stomach.
After that 20 drops once a day for 3 months are recommended.
2. Wormwood capsules or Wormwood Combination capsules:
Increase capsules by one to a total of 14 capsules once a day before eating.
3. Cloves:
3 capsules 3x daily on an empty stomach. There are special recommendations
for taking Cloves:
Dr. Clark recommends to start with one capsule 3 times a day. Then two capsules 3 times
the second day, followed by three capsules 3 times for the next 7 days. After that, one is
to continue with three capsules a day for 3 months.
After a successful treatment, one is
advised to switch to a maintenance program.

The Walnut tincture is apparently best when from green
hulls. Cloves should be fresh ground.
The theory behind this treatment is that the indirect culprit for cancer is the presence
of a flatworm called "Fasciolopsis buskii" in combination with the presence of
isopropyl alcohol in the liver. Both factors, in combination, are suspected to start a
process which leads to the production of a growth factor in the liver called
ortho-phospho-tyrosine, which is also one of a dozen "cancer-markers."
This growth factor then starts cancer in any organ with any kind of predisposition
(chemicals, genes, etc.). The program is supposed to run for 3 months, even so the worm
itself should be dead within the first 6 days. There should also be a measurable reduction
in ortho-phospho-tyrosine.

Scientists at the Princeton University found that brain cells in monkeys regenerated. This type of cell growth was previously thought to be impossible and will have a great impact in future treatments of brain afflictions from injuries caused by an accident to Parkinson's.

According to a study released in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, daily supplements of Magnesium helps to prevent and counter bone loss and Osteoporosis.
Many tests and studies have been done on herbs and other natural remedies. Over and over, these tests have proven the effectiveness of these substances and in some cases have even found these natural to work better than prescription drugs and, at the same time, have less negative side-effects. The following examples should be sufficient to back up this claim (references to scientific studies will be added soon):
Garlic and the Immune system
Garlic has undergone extensive testing. Garlic has proven to be effective
against a wide range of bacteria, microbes, fungi, worms, and intestinal worms. It
strengthens the immune, cardiovascular, and digestive system. It is also
anti-inflammatory, diuretic, diaphoretic, and protects against cancer.
It effects against staphylococcus, streptococcus, esherichia coli, salmonella enteritidis,
and other bacteria compared to prescription drugs like penicillin, erythromycin,
streptomycin, and tetracycline.
Other tests have shown that Garlic's antifungal activity can be more powerful than the
prescription drug Nystatin and in Chinese hospitals Garlic has successfully been used in
the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis which is a serious fungal infection.
Hawthorn and the Heart
Hawthorn may be prescribed in Europe. Tests have shown that Hawthorn can be
used as an effective treatment for angina pectoris, congestive heart failure, high blood
pressure, and high cholesterol levels.
Silymarin and the Liver
Silymarin is an extract of the Milk thistle. Silymarin has a superior
ability to fight all kinds of liver trouble including the dreaded and deadly cirrhosis. It
prevents phalloidine, the deadly toxin of Amanita species from reaching the liver by
binding to the specific receptors itself. Silymarin also increases synthesis of protein in
liver cells, regenerating and rejuvenating cells in the liver. Thus, Silymarin may be more
beneficial than other treatments. Clinics use activated charcoal to absorb toxins expelled
from the liver via bile. However, the death rate in cases of Amanita poisonings is around
40%. The survival rate of cirrhotic patients may also be increased with silymarin.
Terminalia arjuna for the Heart and
Nervous system
Arjun has been tested in India where is is part of an Ayurvedic remedy. These
studies involved Arjun's ability to lower cholesterol, reduce angina attacks, and to
strengthen the heart. No negative side-effects were observed on liver and kidney
functions.
Arjun is the extract of the bark of the Terminalia arjuna tree. Other ingredients of the
Ayurvedic heart remedy include: Amalaki, Asafoetida, Bala, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Ginger,
Haritaki, Hawthorn, Manjishta, Pippali, and Tamarind.
In this combination, this Ayurvedic remedy is also very useful for all kinds of nervous
disorders like tremors, nervousness, heart palpitations, and angina pectoris.
Turmeric for the Heart, Stomach, Inflammation, and Cancer
Turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, and
antimicrobial activity. Further it is beneficial for the cardiovascular system as it
lowers cholesterol and inhibits platelet aggregation. It has protective effects for the
liver and the gastrointestinal system.
Curcumin, an extract of Turmeric, is the substance held responsible for
its anticancer and anti-inflammatory effects. In tests Curcumin's
antiinflammatory effects were found to be comparable to those of cortisone and
phenylbutazone.
Turmeric's Curcumin may inhibit angiogenesis:
Trying to find out how Curcumin attacks Cancer, a team of scientists at the Emory
University, in Atlanta, Georgia, now thinks that Curcumin has the ability to inhibit the
proliferation of primary endothelial cells with or without the presence of basic
fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), a potent angiogenic factor. This means that Curcumin cuts
of the blood supply to a certain degree. Cancers need an increasing blood supply. A Tumor
that consists chiefly out of blood vessels is called an angioma (angio = vessel). They
also observed Curcumin's ability to inhibit phorbol ester-stimulated vascular endothelial
growth factor mRNA production.
Note: Curcumin is not a cure for Cancer but one of the many tools against this
disease.
Ginseng
A Korean study suggests that Ginseng, like so many herbs and
vegetables, exhibits Cancer protective abilities.
Bromelain
(Pineapple)
Enteric coated Bromelain, the extract of Pineapple, is effective against E.coli
according to studies done be Drs. D. S. Chandler of the Victorian Institute of Animal
Science and T. L. Mynott of La Trobe University in Victoria. Bromelain, like Curcumin is
also a powerful anti-inflammatory substance. In combination these
substances may produce better results than some of the prescription drugs that are
specifically used for inflammations.
Exercise
Dutch scientists associated regular exercising with a lowered risk of death
from all causes including cardiovascular disease.
